India grants $5 million in aid for development projects along Myanmar border

New Delhi: India has granted USD5 million in aid to Myanmar as part of its micro-development commitment for projects along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The cheque was handed over by India’s Ambassador to Myanmar Vikram Misri to Myanmar’s minister for border affairs Lt General Ye Aung on Monday.

India's gesture was part of the 2012 Border Region Development Agreement between the two countries.

According to reports, India, as per the agreement, will provide USD5 million for border projects every five years. India will provide $25 million in five separate instalments.

The Indian Embassy in Yangon tweeted: "India Myanmar Friendship Project|Amb. @VikramMisri handed over US$ 4.95 Million Ceremonial Cheque to Union Minister for Border Affairs, Lt. General Ye Aung as India’s assistance to Myanmar’s Border Area Development Project."
