Islamabad: Pakistan is witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases as 7,586 fresh cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, media reports said on Sunday.
Pakistan is seeing the fifth wave of the deadly pandemic driven by Omicron.
Pakistan registered its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases — 7,678 — on Friday since the pandemic started in 2020, the National Command and Operation Centre's (NCOC) statistics had showed, Geo News reported.
According to the NCOC, a total of 58,334 tests were conducted in the country during the last 24 hours, of which 7,586 came back positive, pushing the nationwide tally of the virus cases to 1,367,605, the Pakistani news channel; reported.
The positivity rate of the country has now reached 13 percent.
In the past 24 hours, 20 people have died due to the virus.
