Dhaka: Bangladesh, a nation that witnessed a deadly wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, has detected two Omicron infected cases, media reports said on Saturday.
The virus was detected in two women cricketers who returned from Zimbabwe.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque revealed the incident and was quoted as saying by bdnews24 that cricketers are currently isolating in a hotel in Dhaka.
They recently took part in Bangladesh's successful qualifying campaign for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup in the southern African nation, the news portal reported.
Neither of the two players have experienced any physical complication and are "doing well", according to Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hassan, as quoted by bdnews24.
The strain was first detected in South Africa last month.
