Melbourne: Australia's Victoria state has reported 19 deaths on Monday and recorded the deadliest day ever since the outbreak of the pandemic.

With the recent fatalities, Australia's death toll has climbed to 314.

Meanwhile, the infection rate has stayed low and has dropped significantly in recent days.

On Monday, the state reported 322 new cases.

The overall infected cases is 21,407.

Victoria alone accounted for over 100 deaths as the state saw a rise in the number of hospital admissions.

Even with Monday's toll, Australia has done better than most countries, as it imposed strict lockdown measures as soon as the pandemic broke out.
