Ireland becomes first nation to approve same sex marriage by popular vote
Dublin, May 24 (JEN) Ireland became the first nation to approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote on Saturday bringing victory to the gay rights movement in the country.

As the counting of the ballots ended, 62 percent of votes were in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage while 38 percent opposed the move.
 
With the result in favour of same sex marriage, loud cheers broke out among the crowd of supporters on Saturday who had gathered in the courtyard of Dublin Castle during the counting. 
 
David Quinn, who  is an Irish religious commentator, tweeted: "Congratulations to the Yes side. Well done. #MarRef."
