Quetta: Local workers of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Baloch Students Organization Pajjar (BSO-Pajjar) protested in Dalbandin against the detention of agitating students by the Quetta Police last week.
The participants were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the incumbent provincial government, Quetta Police and higher education commission’s decision of conducting online classes in the province, reports The Express Tribune.
During Sunday's demonstration, BNP-M general secretary Sanaullah Baloch, Ahmed Yar Sumalani, Mustafa Kamal, Iqbal Baloch, Waqar Reki, BSO-Pajjar President Waseem Hoth, Rashid Hamraz Baloch and others condemned the arrest of female students.
The students, who were protesting outside Dalbandin Press Clubwith the demand to have proper internet services and other facilities to attend online classes, were detained by the police last week.
The Balochistan government closed all educational institutions in the province in March to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. During this period, many institutes resumed classes online, reported The Express Tribune.
The students said some areas in Balochistan do not have internet access.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal tweeted: "No students arrest was ordered by the Government...it was a quarrel among police and students in which police acted and arrested. Immediately police was ordered to release the students."
The Quetta City SP was removed from the post after the incident.
Kamal confirmed the matter and had tweeted: "SP City is removed from his post and appropriate action shall also taken against lady constable for this mis handling."
