A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineer was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, on Sunday, according to media reports.

Sharea Faisal police station officer-in-charge Anser Ahmed Butt told Dawn that Imtiaz Ahmed, 54, had stepped out of his home in Block 13 to buy bread when unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

Butt said four bullets were fired during the attack, three of which struck a nearby parked car, while one hit Ahmed, proving fatal.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

His body was subsequently shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a post-mortem examination.
