Kabul: The Afghan Defence Ministry has said that armed guards have killed at least 10 attacks who tried a jailbreak at a prison in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province on Sunday.

The facility was secured after 18 hours, which resulted in the death of 29 people and injured 50 others, according to local media reports.

The attackers killed five prisoners and wounded six others.

Rita Katz, Director of SITE Intelligence Group, said Islamic Group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

"BREAKING: Via Amaq, ISIS claims responsibility for suicide bombing and corresponding gun raid in #Jalalabad, the capital of #Nangarhar, #Afghanistan, which reportedly killed 3 and wounded 24," Katz's tweet read.

The attack took place on Sunday at the entrance of a prison gate in PD4 of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive laden vehicle.
