Toxic gas attack in Syria leaves over 100 people hospitalised

Aleppo: At least 107 people were hospitalised after a toxic gas attack hit government-controlled city of Aleppo in Syria, local media reports said on Sunday.

Chief of Aleppo Police Major General Issam al-Shilli was quoted as saying by Syria's SANA news agency in a statement that terrorist groups on Saturday evening targeted residential neighborhoods in Aleppo City with explosive rocket shells that contain toxic gases.

Inspecting the process of providing treatment for the victims, Aleppo Governor Hussein Diab was quoted as saying by the Syria-based news agency that this attack reaffirms that the terrorist organizations possess toxic gases. 

Medical sources at al-Razi Hospital and the University Hospital said told SANA that 107 civilians were admitted to them as they were suffering from asphyxiation cases of various degrees ranging from light to medium and some of them were admitted to the intensive care units. 

The news agency further said in its report that the country's army responded by shelling the source of the attack.
