Paris: One person was killed by a gunman during a hostage-taking situation at a supermarket in southern French town of Trèbes, media reports said.
At least one person was killed in a hostage crisis in a Trèbes supermarket on Friday, BFMTV reported quoting sources.
Police have rushed to the spot.
Gunman has taken one person as a hostage in Super U shop, media reports said.
David Leyraud, Occitanie Police Alliance, said on BFMTV that "the sector is completely cordoned off" and "everything is done to protect the population".
The attacker has reportedly pledged allegiance to terrorist group Islamic State group.
"Earlier, a policeman was shot and wounded while jogging with colleagues in Carcassonne, a 15-minute drive away,"BBC reported.
According to reports, the gunman has demanded for the release of terrorist Salah Abdeslam.
"According to our information, the hostage taker has made claims. He demanded the release of Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving member of the terrorist commandos of the Paris and Saint-Denis attacks, currently incarcerated. Moreover, according to our information, a Moroccan known to intelligence services for radicalization is suspected of being the hostage taker," reported BFMTV.
