Washington: US politician Nikki Haley on Friday expressed her doubt on the number of deaths and infected people reported by China due to COVID-19 outbreak and said the figures were 'not accurate'.

She said the virus started in China and the nation only cares more about its own reputation than helping the rest of the world in defeating the disease.

"China has reported only 82,000 coronavirus cases & 3300 deaths in a nation of 1.5 billion people. This is clearly not accurate.China cares more about its reputation than helping the rest of the world defeat a virus that was started in their country. #WeWontForget @standamericanow," she tweeted.

In US, the number of COVID-19 infected patients stood at 240,000 on Thursday.

The country has recorded 5,800 deaths so far.

The worldwide number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease has reached 900,306, with 45,693 having died of COVID-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on late Thursday, reported Sputnik news agency.

According to the WHO, almost 5,000 people have died of the disease within the past 24 hours.

At the same time, Johns Hopkins University says that the worldwide number of confirmed cases has already reached 1,002,159, with 51,485 fatalities.
