Coronavirus: US president Donald Trump announces travel suspension from Europe to America

Washington: With Coronavirus declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation, the United States has suspended travel from 26 European countries to America for next one month, beginning Friday at midnight.  President Donald Trump made the announcement in a televised address from the Oval Office.

"To keep new cases from entering our shores, we will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for next 30 days. The new rules will go into effect from Friday midnight," he announced, adding that there will be expemptions for Amercians who are undergoing appropriate screenings.

He said the strong measures were necessary. He said USA is monitoring the situation in China and South Korea.

As of now there are 1,135 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the United States with 38 deaths, said reports.

Earlier, in the wake of the sudden spike in the number of cases related to the novel Coronavirus, the Indian government on Wednesday issued a new travel advisory in which it suspended all visas to India till April 15.
