UK House of Commons passes bill seeking to delay Brexit, prevent no-deal withdrawal

London (Sputnik/UNI) The UK House of Commons in a 313-312 vote passed the legislation, seeking to instruct the government of Prime Minister Theresa May to request the European Union the extension of the Brexit deadline and ruling out the no-deal UK withdrawal from the bloc on April 12.

The so-called Cooper bill was introduced by a group led by Labour parliamentarian Yvette Cooper and Conservative lawmaker Oliver Letwin.

The draft law states that May should suggest a new Brexit deadline and agree it with Brussels.

The legislation now passes to the House of Lords.
