Actress Shannen Doherty, who is known for her performance in series like “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed”, died after her long battle against cancer.
She was 53.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement to CNN.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” her statement continued.
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 2015.
The condition went into remission two years later.
The actress announced in 2020 that cancer had returned, spread and reached stage 4.
Last year, she announced that cancer had reached her brain and she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour.
The actress was even documenting her fight against cancer in her podcast.
The most recent episode was streamed on July 8.
The actress was known for her many roles in television and film, including as Jenny Wilder in Little House on the Prairie (1982–1983); Maggie Malene in Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985); Kris Witherspoon in Our House (1986–1988); Heather Duke in Heathers (1989); Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990–1994), 90210 (2008–2009) and BH90210 (2019); Prue Halliwell in Charmed (1998–2001); and Dobbs in Fortress (2021).
