• Defining main working priorities in agreement with the Country Directors in the region and the Sector Unit in regular intervals
• Supporting country programmes in the region to secure funding for WASH programmes (private and institutional donors), coordinate with donor technical experts and support to develop high quality proposals
• Strengthening and institutionalizing Welthungerhilfe’s “Sustainable Services Initiative” by providing technical support and project/programme planning
• Providing technical assistance for proposal development, implementation and evaluation in cooperation with the MEAL-Team (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) on WASH related aspects
• Facilitating regular learning exchange on WASH between Welthungerhilfe programme staff and partners in the region
• Facilitating and promoting sector relevant horizontal exchange in the region (and beyond)
• Facilitating and supporting capacity development for country and project offices by organizing workshops and trainings
• Promoting nutrition sensitive WASH programming in line with Welthungerhilfe’s PtiN approach (programming towards improved nutrition)
• Actively supporting Welthungerhilfe’s membership with the WASH Agenda for Change (www.washagendaforchange.net)
• Jointly developing and updating WHH’s sector strategy and positioning in line with WHH overall strategy
• Building and maintaining sector relevant networks and communities of practice (internal and external networks)
• Regularly reporting to Regional Directorate and Sector Unit on milestones achieved in the implementation of the work plan
Your profile
• A university or polytechnic degree in WASH or an equivalent degree related to the position
• A minimum of 5 years working experience in WASH programmes in East and Southern Africa; also in emergency situations
• Experience in main WASH approaches, sustainable WASH programming, and system strengthening in WASH
• Familiarity with methodologies for conducting a contextual analysis, scoping assessments and other WASH surveys, as well as WASH-related M&E systems, WASH guidelines and standards
• Experience in writing high-quality WASH proposals as well as reports and strategy design
• Familiarity with policies, procedures and priorities of Donor agencies
• Fluency in both oral and written English is essential
