For a senior finance professional, this is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to utilise your considerable knowledge and experience of financial management, planning and fiduciary governance, to ensure as much as possible of our financial resources are committed to supporting the work we do.

Fish is an important source of food, nutrition, income and livelihoods for hundreds of millions of people around the world, most of whom live in developing countries. The UN High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security has concluded that fish is ‘crucial to any debate and action to reduce poverty and improved food security and nutrition’. WorldFish is an international, non-profit research organisation that works primarily in Africa, Asia and the Pacific to strengthen livelihoods and enhance food and nutrition security. We pursue this through research partnerships focused on helping those who stand to benefit the most — poor producers and consumers, women and children - by improving fisheries and aquaculture.

We have an ambitious strategy with impact targets aligned with the UN SDGs to take us to 2020. The challenges are huge and can only be met by partnering with communities, research innovators, entrepreneurs and investors. Communications that position the organization well for bolstering those partnerships and for increased funding will be critical.

The importance of delivering first-class financial management cannot be understated. You will lead and manage the entire Finance, Legal, Grants/Contract Management and IT functions to ensure that day-to-day and statutory financial activities are compliant and carried out to the highest possible standards, and that financial processes remain fit for purpose.

But this role is so much more. As a member of the Executive Team, you will provide strategic financial analysis, advice and insight to inform and support decision making at the highest levels within the organisation. You will also have a key role advising on the donor landscape from a financial and risk management perspective, as well as negotiating and liaising with institutional donors, philanthropic foundations and other investors.

That’s why you will need to be an effective leader, someone who is able to motivate and inspire diverse and multi-disciplinary teams. A good communicator and decision maker, you are able to think strategically and operate globally, contributing positively across the whole organization.

A Masters’ degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management or a related field, qualifications from an internationally recognized accounting institute is essential, whilst a working knowledge of French is desirable.

Experience operating in a research institute environment, dealing with government and foundation grant funded support or areas related to WorldFish business such as agriculture, research, development and knowledge management would be an advantage.
