If you are a proven leader with a successful track record of developing and executing a global communications strategy, then this is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for you to use your expertise to make a major contribution to reducing hunger, poverty and bettering the livelihoods of millions of people.
Fish is an important source of food, nutrition, income and livelihoods for hundreds of millions of people around the world, most of whom live in developing countries. WorldFish is an international, non-profit research organisation that works primarily in Africa, Asia and the Pacific to strengthen livelihoods and enhance food and nutrition security. We pursue this through research partnerships focused on helping those who stand to benefit the most—poor producers and consumers, women and children - by improving fisheries and aquaculture.
We have an ambitious strategy with impact targets aligned with the UN SDGs to take us to 2020. The challenges are huge and can only be met by partnering with communities, research innovators, entrepreneurs and investors. Communications that position the organization well for bolstering those partnerships and for increased funding will be critical.
With so much at stake, we have created this new position - a role of major importance to the organisation.
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic professional who is capable of bringing the WorldFish mission to life with a plan and communications products and content which will successfully engage current and future investors, donors and stakeholders, as well as strengthening our brand. You will lead and manage the Communications and Marketing Department, while also supporting the Director General and other key leaders on media and communication strategies. You will also contribute to organisational goals as a member of the Executive Team.
This role calls for experience of leading teams across geographies in cross-functional, matrix work environments, as well as in-depth knowledge of media relations, traditional and new media channels, risk management, internal communications and events. In addition to your specific skillset, we need an effective decision maker and leader, someone who is creative, analytical, highly motivated and able to influence at the highest levels. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Proficiency in written and spoken French is highly desirable. While a working knowledge of international development or research organisation would be ideal, you must be sympathetic to, and motivated by, the mission and aims of WorldFish.
