Remuneration

Depending on the professional background and experience the range of remuneration is CHF 4,735 to CHF 6,193 per month. The benefit package includes six weeks of annual leave. It does not include a pension contribution. Please note that this vacancy is located in Geneva and is a locally recruited position with no international benefits. This is not a regular post but a type of contract specific to UNITAR.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director of the Division for People, the Training Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Contribute towards the preparation and roll-out of the Programme’s activities by:

• Supporting the coordination of external consultants and internal staff working on the Programme’s projects;
• Monitoring and assessing project implementation;
• Reviewing and implementing feed-back and recommendations;
• Incorporating detailed research and analysis into reports and project documents;
• Preparing key data, such as programme statistics and evaluation reports;
• Assisting in evaluation processes, including the compilation of data and elaboration of reports;
• Producing project documents and proposals for submission to potential donors;
• Performing other tasks to ensure effective programme development and implementation.

2. Contribute towards the identification of new opportunities for the Programme, with a particular view to leveraging emerging technologies, through the following duties:

• Conducting market research to identify new development opportunities for the Programme;
• Supporting the development of technical aspects of the Programme’s strategy to ensure alignment with its goals;
• Conducting feasibility studies and perform risk analyses, financial analyses, and cost benefit analyses related to the development of new Programme Areas;
• Discovering and implementing new innovations and technologies that yield competitive advantage;
• Providing innovative and creative input into the development of new activities;
• Monitoring developments in the field of emerging technologies, liaising with staff of international organizations, donors, and other stakeholders in view of identifying needs and responding to requests for the design, development and funding of projects, activities and initiatives.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:

• Staff in related Programmes, units, sections and offices of the Institute;
• Diplomatic staff of Permanent Missions accredited to the United Nations Offices;
• Counterparts working in other international organizations, including those in the United Nations system;
• Staff in the training and professional development departments/divisions of Ministries of Foreign Affairs; and
• Non-governmental organizations, universities, the private sector and the press/media.

RESULTS EXPECTED

Support is provided to the Social Development Programme Unit, predominantly with the development of key Programme documents and research papers; efficient and effective support to the implementation of the programme’s activities and services as enshrined in the Institute work plan; effective communication with internal and external counterparts to achieve prescribed results.

COMPETENCIES

• Professionalism – In-depth knowledge of training methodologies, practices and principles of adult learning; strong understanding of the UN System and developments in the field of multilateral diplomacy; practical experience in course design, implementation, and evaluation; excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Planning & Organizing – Sound planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize own work, delivering results and quality work, including when working under pressure.
• Commitment to continuous learning – Willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the field of training design, delivery, evaluation, including technology-enhanced learning tools, and knowledge management in general through formal and informal means of learning, including self-learning.
• Communications – Excellent communication skills (spoken, written and presentation), including the ability to draft/edit a variety of written documents, such as training materials, reports, studies, strategies, and other communication materials, articulating ideas in a clear and concise style, including ability to prepare and deliver targeted and results-oriented presentations.
• Technology awareness – Fully proficient in computer skills, with ability to use a variety of software and applications.
• Teamwork – Strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with multiple constituencies and to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum experience: 2

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: University degree in engineering science, business administration, computer science, international relations, or related fields, or equivalent combination of education/training with sound working experience in project management, training, learning, analysis or research fields, in particular in the context of the UN System.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience, with proven experience of research projects, drafting concept papers and articles; analysis of key data and trends; exposure to diplomatic training environments, preferably within the UN System or public sector.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

Other skills: Advanced drafting and analytical skills; excellent information technology skills; creative writing skills; the ability to work autonomously; an awareness of diplomacy and global current affairs.

Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language would be an advantage.
