Job Description

ITPC is seeking a senior director to lead a large project aiming to remove intellectual property (IP) barriers to market entry of affordable anti-HIV, HCV and TB generics in middle-income countries. The project will be implemented in partnership with eight partner organizations covering seventeen developing countries. As the project lead, ITPC will provide financial & technical support to partner organizations so that they can carry out their advocacy campaigns and interventions to remove IP barriers and improve access to treatment. This innovative 3-year project is part of ITPC’s Make Medicines Affordable campaign.

The Project Director will oversee the entire project and report directly to ITPC’s Director of Global Programs and Advocacy. On a daily basis, the Project Director will work closely with ITPC’s Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines Lead.

There are no geographical restrictions on where this post is based, however applicants in the GMT time zone will be preferred.

Main Responsibilities:
Project management:
Oversee the programmatic and financial performance of the project
Be accountable for delivering a quality project on time, to budget and which meets or exceeds milestones
Write, collate, edit, finalize and submit timely comprehensive reports
Work collaboratively with team and closely with the project’s technical lead and finance team to maximize project impact
Develop operational systems and processes aligned to donor requirements
Demonstrate appropriate technical/thematic input to project delivery
With team, ensure visibility of the project at national, regional and international levels
Represent the project at national, regional and international conferences
Consortium and people management:
Build and motivate a project team
Recruit and mentor project staff as needed
Supervise project staff in different time zones (distance management)
Performance frameworks, assessments etc.
Ensure that staff are motivated and on the correct trajectory to meet donor deadlines
Coach and support project-based staff and consultants as determinded by projects and contracts
Donor and contract management:
Serve as the focal point for the project donor with the consortium
Build strong and credible relationship with donor and all stakeholders o Apply a risk management/mitigation approach to project delivery
Ensure all donor compliance requirements and agreed targets for spend, deliverables and impacts are met in collaboration with project team leads
Experience
Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience working in an international context, nonprofit, philanthropic sector or related field is required.
Demonstrated experience managing complex multi country contracts and multi-million US$ budgets (programmatic, technical & financial) with organizations from developing countries is required.
Previous work with The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria,Unitaid – a plus.
Must have the ability to be flexible with work time and scheduling.
Must have the ability to travel 40% of total work time.
Commitment to ITPC’s mission and to the health and human rights of all people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS is essential.

Preferred experience includes:
Knowledge on intellectual property, access to medicines and more generally the response to the three epidemics (HIV, HCV or TB)

Skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrating high levels of personal integrity and professional credibility.
Excellent leadership and people management skills.
Intuitive balance between macro and micro perspective when implementing a project (strong attention to detail is in the context of the bigger picture).
Ability to develop innovative solutions under resource-constrained settings.
Tolerance for ambiguity; adaptability; ability to move a project forward in a changing and uncertain environment.
Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office package (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Strong written and oral communication (including presentation) skills in English. In addition to English, ability to work in any one of the following languages: French, Spanish, Thai, Russian or Portuguese.
Comfort working collaboratively and managing staff both in-person & virtually (using Zoom, Skype and other tools).
Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and perspectives (Inter-culturalism (teams embedded in different cultures/countries).
Exceptionally quick learner (technical content and people/teams).
