The South Asia Amnesty International Regional Office is recruiting a new full-time Civil Society and Advocacy Officer based in Colombo. This is a fixed term contract for 18 months.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As Civil Society and Advocacy Officer, you will develop and implement a coherent region-wide strategy for engaging effectively with civil society in South Asia. You will monitor and develop a strong regional analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and trends concerning civil society across South Asia, identifying key partnerships and opportunities aligned to Amnesty International's strategic goals.

Leveraging opportunities for a different quality of partnerships made possible by Amnesty International's new office in the region, you will be required to strategize on approaches to strengthen accountability for lack of enjoyment of all rights, shrinking space for civil society activism and threats to human rights defenders through innovative and creative partnerships. You will be an effective advocate for, and with, civil society partnerships at sub-regional, regional and international advocacy mechanisms and processes and will contribute towards building the capacity and effectiveness of human rights work carried out by civil society groups in the region.

ABOUT YOU
With substantial direct professional experience of working with civil society organizations and human rights defenders in South Asia in a campaigning, advocacy and activism role, you will have a strong understanding of the role of civil society organizations, activist networks and individual human rights defenders in driving positive change and experience of advocacy. You will have specialist understanding of the working environment in South Asia and will be familiar and experienced in coordinating campaign networks.

You will have excellent networking and partnership-building skills, with the ability inspire and motivate others. A highly advanced communicator, you will be able to express ideas in a clear and compelling manner English both orally and in writing. Fluency in one or more South Asian languages would be a distinct advantage.
